
Luís Toscano
After an early training as chorister in the “Coro dos Pequenos Cantores de Coimbra” (Portugal) under José Firmino, Luís continued his musical studies at Coimbra Conservatory under Isabel Melo e Silva, while also acheiving a Licentiate Diploma in Economy at Coimbra University (2001). In 2009 he completed his Masters in Music at the Aveiro University under José Abreu and António Salgado, having co-founded “La Farsa” (specialising in the repertoire for voice and plucked strings), with Tiago Matias, and fulfilling an FCT/Portuguese Government scholarship to research, edit and perform Iberian Renaissance music.
While specialising in the vocal music, both solo and choral of the Renaissance and Baroque eras, Luís Toscano has studied and worked closely with Owen Rees, Graham O'Reilly and Peter Phillips (ensemble singing), Cristina Miatello and Jill Feldman (singing) and Juan Carlos Rivera, Ketil Haugsand, Peter Holtslag, Richard Gwilt, Rainer Zipperling, Wieland Kuijken and Ana Mafalda Castro (chamber music).
Luis is currently a member of “Grupo de Fado Aeminium”, “Capela Gregoriana Psalterium”, “Vocal Ensemble”, “Cappella Musical Cupertino de Miranda”, “Mercurius Company”, “Capella Duriensis” and “Coro Casa da Música”, through which he has performed with Paul Hillier, Laurence Cummings, James Wood, Kaspars Putniņš, Christoph König, Simon Carrington, Peter Rundel, Jonathan Ayerst, Andrew Parrott, Antonio Florio, Alberto Seiça, Vasco Negreiros and Ricardo Barros.
Luís enjoys regular engagements as a soloist tenor and haute-contre, performing alongside “Orquestra Clássica do Centro”, “Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras”, “Orquestra Sinfonieta de Braga” and organists Rui Vilão, Tiago Ferreira, Filipe Veríssimo and Fernando Miguel Jalôto.
