St. John's Passion

Thursday, Mar 15th 2012 - 7:30pm
Price: 150 / 100 (stud)
Arranged by: Ars Nova Copenhagen

A Bach concert using the kind of forces Bach himself might have expected. The singers make up a small chorus who share the solos and all the choruses among them. This was Bach’s practice, and thus the vocal ensemble, supported and enhanced by a similarly small orchestra, becomes the source of the whole event. The result, we believe, will be an intimate yet powerfully focussed revelation of this dramatic masterpiece.

There will be a short intermission during which a reading will be given (in Bach’s day it was a sermon). Furthermore, the audience is invited to join in the chorales...and for those wishing it we will hold a choir practice just before the performance!
